WHY WEAR WHISKERS
Wearing
facial hair can often improve a face shape by accenting strong
facial features or masking and balancing
irregularities. Just like your hair the
shape of a mustache, goatee or beard style depends for the most
part on the natural growth pattern
and density of the beard.
Facial hair styles can make a
man look handsome, mature, rugged, dashing, sexy,
intelligent, friendly, decisive, aristocratic, distinguished, bold, evil or
just simply
stylish. I starting wearing a mustache when I was twenty to
look older and after discovered how it helped cover
and hide my wide upper lip.
For
example, a
sharp nose
and small mouth can be balanced with a mustache or goatee for an aristocratic and dashing
look like Errol Flynn or Clark Gable. Many notable
Hollywood stars shown here have discovered how adding facial hair can set
the stage for the many character parts they play. For his casual look Don Johnson of Miami Vice fame made the five
o'clock shadow look stylish in the 80's. It was so
popular that men across America and around the world skipped a day of
shaving to get this five o'clock shadow look look.
Growing A Bread _
Getting Started

For men the beard is the fastest growing hair on the body, growing
twice as fast as the scalp hair. Don't ask me
why? It right up there with the question (who let the dog out)?
It takes 10 days to get
it a bread started. Shaving around the edge can help give you a groomed look
while growing the bread for the first time. At this point you can
start experimenting with the shape. For example, remove the sides and
leave the mustache and chin hair for a goatee look and sideburns.
Extra
Care:
To keep the beard clean and soft void bar soap as it will make the beard course, dull and dry.
Instead use your shampoo instead of soap to keep it clean and a hair
conditioner for course hair to make it feel soft to the touch.
I created a
multi action hair and body Shampoo and
Extra Care Conditioner to keep the skin under the beard moist and
prevent bread dandruff. And to soften those stiff course whiskers soft
to the touch a special self warming Hair Conditioner.
And to give a beard, mustache or goatee a shapely
look use a soft styling wax
or foaming
pomade.
Trimming
& Shaping
Because the beard is the fastest growing hair on the body it must be
trimmed frequently. Ideally every third day or at least weekly to keep it
groomed. Careful shaping and shaving around the edge add character and
shows you care about your appearance.
I recommend the Wahl Peanut Clipper
available a most beauty supply stores. It's small size make it ideal for
shaping and trimming the edge.
Coloring the
beard...
In some cases coloring the beard may be appropriate to cover gray spots or
a lighter shade to keep the color uniformed.
Beard hair is very resistant to hair dye especially as it grays. Adding
color without using hair dye can be done by using a eye brow pencil
applied with a make-up brush. The advantage is that it can be removed with
shampoo and applied only when you want to cover gray or darken the edge to accent its shape.
What many
women think about facial hair....
Fifty one percent when asked said they like the look of a men with a
beard, mustache or goatee as long as it's clean, groomed and soft
to the touch. Care and shaping play a major roll if you want your facial
hair style to be a
"turn on" not a "turn off" !

Receding
Hairlines
can be counter balanced with a
full or close clipped beard. goatee and mustache by
directing attention away from the forehead.

A Balding Head
is
like an unpainted canvas and can look more interesting with goatee, mustache
or close clipped beard like Bruce Willis.

Young Face
gains authority and a few years with the addition of
facial hair like Leonardo Di Caprio.
and Colin
Farrell
FACIAL
FEATURES
A ruddy complexion
will go unnoticed with
a
well shaped beard. An aging weathered face can look softer with close clipped whiskers / full beard or goat-tee like James Colburn

Narrow lip, high forehead or large nose can be off
set with a thin mustache and close
clipped triangle patch of hair under the lower lip line. With a mustache
its called a Musketeer but alone like Quentin Tarantino its
called a "taint" because it "taint" a beard and it "taint" a
mustache :-)
Fidel Castro ...
Some Beard Styles can be scary looking.
